The Gee Whiz*

The Gee Whiz takes cues from the many coffee liqueur cocktails that have made their way across the bar.  Paddle Wheel’s soft grain and earth notes are enhanced with sweet coffee and hint of chocolate and citrus.  Topped with a cream frappe, the Gee Whiz is a beautiful cocktail to share at a party or just make one for yourself because you deserve it!  Enjoy. 

Bar Tools: 2-Cocktail shakers, whisk ball, strainer, bar spoon, citrus zester.
Glass: Cocktail Glass
Style: Up

  • 2 oz Paddle Wheel Corn Whiskey
  • 1 oz Tia Maria Coffee Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz creme de cocoa 
  • 1 dash of orange bitters
  • 1 oz heavy cream
  • Orange zest 

PREP:

Pre chill your cocktail glass.

Step 1

To the first shaker, or small jar, add cream and whisk ball.  Shake for 5-10 seconds to create a cream frappe. Set aside.

Step 2

In the second shaker, add Paddle Wheel, Tia Maria, creme de cocoa, and orange bitters to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake hard for 20 seconds. 

Step 3

Strain to the chilled cocktail glass.

Step 4

Gently pour the cream frappe over the back of a bar spoon, topping the cocktail.  Garnish with orange zest and serve.  Cheers!

*What’s in a name?  The Gee Whiz is named after one of the largest paddle wheelers to have graced Canandaigua Lake.  Known for her billowing white smoke the Genundewah was launched in 1889.  Nicknamed the “Gee Whiz” she serviced Canandaigua Lake until 1894.
